Corner view "joy"

I think this time of the year gives me joy!
I love the time of Sinterklaas.
[ Sinterklaas (or more formally Sint Nicolaas or Sint Nikolaas; Saint Nicolas in French; Sankt Nikolaus in German) is a traditional Winter holiday figure still celebrated today in the Low Countries, including the Netherlands and Belgium, as well as French Flanders (Lille) and Artois (Arras). He is also well known in territories of the former Dutch Empire, including South Africa, Aruba, Suriname, Curaçao, Bonaire, and Indonesia. He is one of the sources of the holiday figure of Santa Claus in North America.]
Usually we make poems and surprise gifts and usually we celebrate it with family.
Only not this year, somehow we did not do it this time, but maybe next year again!
I like looking for the presents and making the poem and also a surprise for the person I'll get.
[Poems can still accompany bigger gifts as well. Instead of such gifts being brought by Sinterklaas, family members may draw names for an event comparable to Secret Santa. Gifts are to be creatively disguised (for which the Dutch use the French word "surprise"), and are usually accompanied by a humorous poem which often teases the recipient for well-known bad habits or
other character deficiencies.]
And remember the little mouse and beer [klik], unfortunately Siepie has
made scratched on the paper, so I started a new one; here a little piece, what gives me joy too!

The theme next week comes from Susanna, and is "Today you are You, that is truer than true.
There is no one alive who is Youer than You", a quote from Dr Seuss'

  1. So he arrives with the surprises and poems before christmas? Nice tradition. We call santa "jólamaðurin". :)

  2. sinterklaas ! i like it !! it has such a nicer ring to it than plain old 'santa' !!

i love your drawings too ! you are very talented !!

    Here is my joy ...

  3. We are all in joyful anticipation over here for the winter holiday :)

  4. Lovely! What a fantastic tradition to give gifts with a poem attached. Fabulous!

  5. Sounds like you all manage to keep the real spirit of giving in this celebration---that's great!
I love your new header and the small illustration above. :>)

  6. ha ha ha... verkade. i smile, because i am reminded of toon hermans' sketch on 'wat ruist er door het struikgewas', because the auditioneer presents himself as verkade [as opposed to verkouden]. susannah, i'm quite simply a hermans addict, you know...

on joy. sinterklaas? the childhood joy! great nostalgic topic!

  7. Nice time of the year, and poems are so good!

  8. It IS a nice time of the year, though I'm liking it less and less because of the many shop owners and institutions wanting to spoil all children in sight with candy.

Only Saint Nicholas should do so! (I bet he is cross about this too.)

  9. thank you for words and pictures! I love your 2nd picnic! I wish you a nice and joyful evening.

  10. laughing together about our human faults seems better than pretending we're all good at this time of year - just a thought!

  11. I'm happy reading you and seeing your drawing. Pure joy... and big question for the next CV ;)
